Get all the info you need by installing the HP Management drivers for your vSphere server.
If you’re installing from the .iso from VMware you probably don’t have the HP drivers integrated into it, but you would like to monitor your Array Controller and discs.
Download and install VMware vSphere CLI 4.0
Download the ” offline HP ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware ESXi 4.1 ”
Go to : HP Support & Drivers Downloads
Fill out your server details, for example DL380 G7 and press enter,
Select VMware ESX/ESXi 4.1 from the operating system list.
Scroll down to Operating System – Enhancements to find your download.
Open the VMware vSphere CLI
Typ the following cmdline to find out if the bundle is applicable:
vihostupdate.pl --server <IP> --scan --bundle c:\hp-esxi4.1uX-bundle-1.0a.zip
Enter your vSphere server credentials
Verify that the bundle is applicable.
Now list the bulletins inside of the bundle, typ:
vihostupdate.pl --server <IP> --list --bundle c:\hp-esxi4.1uX-bundle-1.0a.zip
Make sure that your server is in Maintenance Mode or you will receive an error during the install.
Now install the bundle, typ:
vihostupdate.pl --server <IP> --install --bundle c:\hp-esxi4.1uX-bundle-1.0a.zip
Reboot your server to finish the installation.
After the installation you can query your server to see if it’s installed.
vihostupdate.pl --server <IP> --query
Hi Martin,
I installed the bundle for ESXi 4.1 U2 on my DL380 G4, but I’ve not noticed anything different in Configuration->Health status. Furthermore in Configuration->Storage->Devices I can see two logical disks but an unknown hardware acceleration status. I’m wondering if my server does support the management sensors or if it’s just a setup problem with the bundle. Please note that executing the query to check installation status, the following is reported:
hpq-esxi4.1uX-bundle-1.4-26 2014-01-29T23:44:24 HP ESXi 4.1 Bundle 1.4-26
I’m planning to start a fresh installation of HP’s VMware ESXi image, just to check if it has something different with respect to my installation.
What do you think?
Thanks and regards,
Stefano
